CMS seeks volunteers for equity council

CLOVIS (KSMX)- Clovis Municipal Schools is seeking volunteers to serve on an Equity Council to drive continuous improvement and equity-focused educational systems.

The Equity Council aligns with the New Mexico Public Education Department’s plan to meet the requirements of the Yazzie/Martinez v. State of New Mexico lawsuit with a four-part strategy:

  • develop effective and equitable systems of support
  • equity-focused leadership and continuous improvement
  • culturally and linguistically responsive curriculum
  • accountability

The consolidated lawsuit challenged the State’s failure to provide students – especially low-income, Native American, English Language Learners (ELL), and students with disabilities – the programs and services necessary for them to learn and thrive, and challenged the State’s failure to sufficiently fund these programs and services.

If you are interested in serving on the Council, please apply online at www.clovis- schools.org/equity_council.html.
