NEW MEXICO (KSMX) – Xcel Energy recently announced the construction progress on the Hale Wind Project. The wind farm, located in Hale County, Texas, is set to be completed and producing clean energy to Texas and New Mexico customers by June. This project is similar to the slightly larger project, called Sagamore, planned for Roosevelt County. The project is waiting on studies from the Southwest Power Pool, which will lay out the logistics of connecting the Sagamore with the regional grid. Although construction has yet to begin on the Sagamore project, officials are planning that project to be operational sometime next year. Combined, the Hale and Sagamore projects will add 1,000 megawatts of clean energy to the regional grid.
