SUSPECT IN A FATAL CAR CRASH BACK IN MAY HAS BEEN ARRESTED

On Saturday, May 29th, 2021, at about 10:50 p.m., Police and Fire Services were dispatched to an apartment in the 3400 block of Lore Street for a crash involving a single motor vehicle and an apartment.  Officers arrived on scene, noting a 2016 Ford Fusion had crashed through the north facing brick wall of an apartment, coming to rest within the bedroom of that apartment.  The resident of the apartment, identified as Gillian M. Sweeney, 74 years of age, had been impacted by the vehicle and died at the scene. The driver of the vehicle has been identified as Matthew Delaware, 21 years of age, of Cannon Air Force Base.

The Clovis Police Department Major Crash Team was activated and investigated this fatal crash.

Based on the investigation, criminal charges have been filed in reference to this crash.  An arrest warrant for Homicide by Motor Vehicle, a third-degree felony, was generated and served. Delaware has been taken into custody and is currently being lodged at the Curry County Adult Detention Center.
