NMDOT OFFERS TIPS TO SAFE WEATHER TRAVEL

EASTERN NM (KSMX) – The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory effective from this morning until noon tomorrow. Heavy mixed precipitation is possible, with total snow accumulations 1-4 inches. Ice accumulations of around one tenth of an inch can also be expected throughout eastern New Mexico, including Curry and Roosevelt Counties. Today we could see a mixture of rain, freezing rain, sleet, snow and fog, especially this evening, before changing to straight snow overnight. Due to colder temperatures, road conditions could become hazardous, and stay icy until Sunday. If you do have to drive in the weather, the New Mexico Department of Transportation offers recommendations for driving safe. Wear your seatbelt, slow down and leave extra space between your vehicle and the one in front of you, use brakes carefully as it takes more time and distance to stop in hazardous conditions, and use extra caution on bridges, ramps and overpasses.
