NEW MEXICO (KSMX) -The New Mexico Office of the State Auditor has issued a warning to the public of an email phishing scam that is telling users to change their payroll information. According to the release, the OSA warns that scammers are targeting users into changing their bank account information, redirecting the direct deposits into a fraudulent account. Scammers are using email accounts that appear to come from a known source, such as a high-level state employee. Reports of potential email requests for payroll changes have already come from the Public Education Department, Santa Fe public schools, Clovis municipal schools, New Mexico Military Institute and more. The OSA says if you receive such an email, to report it to the New Mexico State Auditor immediately.
