A Special Session will begin at noon TODAY Tuesday, March 30th to take up legalizing adult-use cannabis and expanding the Local Economic Development Act, or LEDA.
The Bill Regarding Cannabis:
NMCC has not taken a position on adult-use recreational cannabis provided that any proposed legislation includes strong workplace safety protections. HB 12, which made it to the senate floor, included work place protections and legislation is optimistic that the Special Session recreational cannabis bill will take their concerns into account.
LEDA GRT Sharing (STRONG SUPPORT):
This bill is the portion of the passed HB 11 LEDA bill that was stripped out during the 2021 Regular Session. Effective in FY22, this bill will incentivize companies who would not otherwise invest in New Mexico to build large projects in state (at least over $350 million in construction costs spread out over ten years). The bill would make New Mexico much more competitive with other states in recruiting large, capital intensive investments while providing local control to counties and cities regarding project approvals.
