CLOVIS MAN ARRESTED IN CONNECTION WITH SHOOTING

CLOVIS (KSMX) A Clovis man has been arrested on a number of charges after fleeing from officers Tuesday evening. The incident stems from October 26th when officers with the Clovis Police Department responded to Plains Regional Medical Center in reference to a gunshot wound victim. Upon arrival, officers found a 55-year-old unconscious male, who was being tended by emergency personnel for his life-threatening injuries. The was ultimately transported to a Lubbock area hospital for treatment. On Tuesday, Detectives with the Clovis Police Department were able to interview the victim, at which time he identified 24-year-old Ruben Lopez as that person who shot him. Later than evening, officers encountered Lopez in a convenience store parking lot in the area of 7th and Hull Streets. When the officer approached Lopez, who was on a moped, he fled the area, crossing multiple lanes of traffic to evade the officer.  Lopez drove the moped without regard to the safety of others, and in the area of Grand and Mitchell Streets, he crashed into a vehicle that had the right of way. He was transported to Plains Regional Medical Center for his injuries, and was later released and taken into custody. He was booked on charges of Aggravated Burglary, Aggravated Assault with Intent to Commit a Violent Felony, Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon, and four counts of Conspiracy. Lopez is currently being held at the Curry County Adult Detention Center. The incident is still under investigation.
